MICKLEY STUD

Richard is the owner and driving force behind Mickley Stud.

Born in 1963 in County Cork, Southern Ireland, Richard is one of seven children. His father John Kent was a beef farmer with a passion for breeding successful thoroughbreds. On leaving school Richard worked with Robert Percival in England and then Liam Cashman at Glenview Stud in Ireland for eight years, before working on studs in Western Australia.

In 1991 Richard came to England and was a partner in Helshaw Grange Stud. In 2005 Richard started Mickley Stud with his partner Clare Lloyd.  Richard has two children, Finbar and Aoife from his first marriage and he and Clare have two children, Fraser and Nell.

A successful jockey, riding 148 point-to-point winners and 25 winners under rules.

Over 10yrs training experience. He has Trained Grand National Winners Lord Gyllene. Aintree Topham Chase with Cassia Heights and Listen Timmy. Aintree Foxhunters with Rolling Ball.

Now works along side Sarah on the preparation yard.

Working fulltime at Mickley Stud since 2008, Sarah was introduced to racing by Mrs S Crow. She has since become Steven Brookshaw's Assistant Trainer.

Experience in breaking, sales, schooling,medications, foaling and riding work.

Qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 1968, John is one of Britain’s most prominent equine stud vets.

He is a well respected vet and scientific author, with over 50 peer reviewed scientific papers written, on all aspects of equine reproduction have been published to date.

John attends the Stud throughout the stud season attending to the gynaecology of the mares.

Laura qualified from the Royal veterinary College in 2005 and is a vital part of the Nantwich Equine Veterinary Group.

Laura attends Mickley on a daily basis.

Her main area of interest is neonatal medicine, making her a huge asset to the Stud.

Peter has been a farrier for 41 years and runs his own company. Peter has been Richards’ farrier for over 18 years, since his arrival in England.

 Peter and his team from Moreton Wood Forge ltd are Mickley at least three times a week and are a vital part of its smooth running.

Clare’s previous 20 years experience has been grooming in 3 day eventing, show jumping at International levels and in racing, where she worked as yard manager and travelling head girl.
Richard was on the vice chairman of ‘The Thoroughbred Breeders Association National Hunt Committee’ since 2001 to 2011 and is a staunch supporter of the British Breeding Industry, having a real interest in pedigrees and a passionate belief that he and his stud can only succeed and prosper, if you the clients are successful, both in the sale ring and on the racecourse.
